This story is reminding me a lot of another about another Thomas – as in Covenant.
I had never heard of these until just now – the title similarity is a fluke (the original title was just “Epic” so thanks Blue Sky for beating me to the punch on THAT one ;p)
Not surprising that similarities exist, however, since this story is a deliberate (and affectionate) riffing on the whole “average loser goes to fantastic world and becomes chosen hero” trope. It’s not an uncommon story.
